Emmerdale viewers are convinced that Serena Sugden is not to be trusted after it was revealed she was a police officer, raising fears that she could expose the truth about John Sugden's death. The revelation came when Kev Barton told Robert Sugden that he recognized Serena from her time in the police force, a detail that threatens to unravel the cover-up surrounding John's death.
Serena's Arrival and Suspicious Behavior
Serena, played by Casey Al-Shaqsy, arrived in the Dales last month, surprising residents by claiming to be a member of the Sugden family. She first appeared after finding Charity Dingle at a lake following an assault by Dr. Todd. Since then, Serena has been asking numerous questions about John Sugden, sparking suspicion among those who knew him.
Vanessa Woodfield grew suspicious after spotting Serena reading an article about the death of Nate Robinson, who was killed by John before his body was disposed of in the lake. Vanessa confided in Moira Dingle, who agreed that something was amiss. Moira then informed Robert, who encountered Kev Barton at her home. Kev revealed that he recognized Serena as a former police officer.
Threat to the Cover-Up
This revelation poses a significant threat to Robert, Aaron Dingle, and Moira, who have helped cover up the true circumstances of John Sugden's death. Viewers know that Victoria Sugden killed John in self-defense after he tried to convince her to run away with him. The death was ruled a suicide, allowing Victoria to leave for Portugal with her son Harry.
In the July 15 episode, Serena asked Bob Hope about the sale of Butler's Farm, which was handed over to the Tates without ever appearing on the market. She later confronted Robert, who denied any wrongdoing. Serena then revealed her connection to John: her mother was struggling financially, and John cashed in his army pension early to help them. She claimed she wanted to give the remaining money to John's victims, such as Tracy, Nate's ex-wife.
Aaron's Warning and Fan Reactions
Aaron remained distrustful of Serena after she deduced that Victoria was the one who killed John. He stormed off, warning Robert that their freedom was at risk. The episode ended with Serena heading towards Hotten police station.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their suspicions. @1stladyhooligan wrote: "I don't believe Serena & that she left the police force for personal reason came across as shady AF!" @soapsideeye added: "Oh wow great reverse psychology Serena" as @chris1968e wrote: "Serena you're lying thru your teeth. Surely Rob won't be that stupid & believe her."
