Emmerdale's Laura Norton reveals truth behind Kerry and Eric's 'ridiculous' secret wedding
Emmerdale star on Kerry and Eric's shock secret wedding

Emmerdale star Laura Norton has opened up about her character Kerry Wyatt's astonishing and secret marriage to village stalwart Eric Pollard, describing the plot as "ridiculous" but "incredibly funny".

A Shock Wedding Twist

In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday 24th December 2025, viewers of the ITV soap witnessed the unanticipated union. The ceremony unfolded as Jacob Gallagher and Sarah Sugden were preparing for their own clandestine wedding, only to stumble upon the truth about Kerry and Eric.

Actress Laura Norton, who plays the chaotic but big-hearted Kerry, has now shared the motivations behind the surprising storyline. The wedding was primarily a financial arrangement, devised to protect Jacob's inheritance amid Eric's concerns about his own money.

Misplaced Guilt and Full Circle Moments

Norton delved deeper into her character's psyche, suggesting Kerry's actions stem from a sense of loyalty and debt. "Kerry however dysfunctional and chaotic she is, is a girl with a heart who makes true friendships," the actress explained.

She highlighted the history between the characters, recalling how Eric and his late wife Val had cared for Kerry's daughter, Amy. "They did a really fantastic job and she was very happy... I feel like this is some sort of misplaced guilt a little bit," Norton said. "It's a full circle moment... you looked after my daughter and I know that my daughter would want me to do this for you."

Despite the practical reasons, Norton insists Kerry genuinely cares for Eric, noting they are both "loveable rogues" with similar outlooks.

Future Romance with Jai Sharma?

While committed to her pact with Eric, Norton hasn't ruled out a future for Kerry and her recent flame, factory boss Jai Sharma. She acknowledged a surprising shift in their dynamic, which has long been defined by bickering.

"There was this moment when they both got to look at each other in a different way, it was a massive surprise to both of them," she revealed, noting positive fan reaction on social media. "She brings out a nice side of Jai. A softer side."

Norton hinted that Kerry's humorous attempts to help Jai with his family problems changed his perception of her. As for what comes next, she teased: "Who knows? But it did surprisingly work well... watch this space."

"The Most Fun Filming in Ages"

The actress confessed she thoroughly enjoyed filming the outrageous plotline. "That period of filming was the most fun I had filming in ages," she shared, contrasting it with emotional storylines from the previous year.

"This recent stuff was just great back to old school Kerry," Norton said, praising the unlikely partnership with Eric Pollard. "It's like a duo that you shouldn't put together, but for some reason it just works. They are in a situation that is so ridiculous, it's all so incredibly funny."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
