In the August 5 episode of Emmerdale, two characters said their goodbyes: Noah Dingle left the village, and the beloved family dog Monty was put to sleep. The episode, available on ITVX and YouTube before airing on ITV1, delivered a double dose of emotional farewells.
Noah's Departure
Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) had decided to apply for a job abroad, feeling tired of village life and wanting new memories. When he told his mother Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), her reaction made him think he wouldn't leave. But in today's episode, Charity sat down with her son and told him it was time to go.
Monty's Final Moments
Meanwhile, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) took Monty to the vets after the family decided it was time to put the poorly pup to sleep. Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick), Sam (James Hooton), Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper), and Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) stayed at Wishing Well to support Kyle and Isaac (Huey Quinn and Bobby Dunsmuir), leaving Cain alone with Monty as Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) administered the medication.
The scenes were devastating. Cain spoke to Monty about being a good boy and told him to ask dad Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) to take him for walks in heaven. Kyle and Isaac later went to the vets, not wanting Cain to be alone. As Cain carried Monty to the car, Lydia, Sam, and Kammy gathered around him, united in grief.
A Family United
The Dingles traditionally bury their own on family land. Before Noah left, he approached Cain for a final goodbye. The loss of Monty may seem small to some, but for the Dingles, he was family. Surrounded by loved ones, Cain was reminded that while one chapter ended painfully, another was beginning for Noah.
