Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant has hinted at Dr Caitlin Todd's true motive with Jacob Twist, as the storyline revisits Jacob's traumatic past with predatory teacher Maya Stepney. Dr Todd, played by Caroline Harker, has been bullying Jacob at work and researching his relationship with Maya, using the information to manipulate him further.
Plant, who plays Jacob, explained that his character is determined to succeed in his career despite the harassment. 'Things are kind of boiling over for him. But this is the career that he wanted. This is the career that Leyla wanted him to do, and she was so extremely proud of him,' he said. 'He's like, no, I can't give up. This is what I wanted. This is how I prove to myself and everybody around me that I'm actually strong and capable.'
Dr Todd's actress Caroline Harker revealed that her character keeps the information about Jacob's past 'in the back pocket' and uses it unpredictably. 'She always does what you don't expect. Whether she'll use it or not, I don't know. But it's like plugging a sieve with her, so it'll pop up somewhere else,' she said.
Plant warned that Jacob would not react well if Dr Todd uses the information against him. 'I don't think he would take very kindly to it. He has been trying to really put all that to the back of his mind, so I think it's going to be really triggering for him,' he said. 'Jacob needs his close ones more than ever in situations like this. He's got a rough ride ahead.'
