Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) finally confronts her rapist, Dr. Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), in a tense showdown in Emmerdale, with the long-awaited clash seeing Charity demand a confession from the vile attacker.
The confrontation comes after Charity’s legal case hits a brick wall, as police cannot act due to lack of evidence, and her ordeal is classified as sexual assault rather than rape in the eyes of the law. Initially floored by this, a trip to a support group made things worse when Charity found she couldn’t relate to other victims because their attackers had all been men.
Charity’s search for justice
With help from Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), Charity tracked down another Todd victim, Helen, but Helen refused to take a stand, leaving Charity at a loss. Undeterred, Charity returns to the support group, where the facilitator helps her see that the guilt she feels belongs to her perpetrator, not to her.
Empowered, Charity heads home but finds Todd waiting for her in Jacobs Fold. Unbeknownst to Todd, she hasn’t caught Charity on a bad day—Charity is ready to tackle her head-on.
The showdown escalates
Charity demands Todd leave, but Todd holds firm, trying to goad Charity and threatening legal action. Charity demands a confession, and Todd threatens to tell Sarah about Leyla, but she underestimates Charity, who will stop at nothing to protect her family.
The confrontation escalates as Charity screams at Todd that she’s a rapist, and Todd realizes Charity won’t go down without a fight. Unknown to both, someone has snuck in and overheard—could it be DS Reid, or more likely, Sarah?
