Emmerdale fans have a lot to look forward to this month, as the soap's boss Laura Shaw has confirmed that the run-up to Dawn Fletcher and Joe Tate's wedding will be anything but smooth.
Dawn, played by Olivia Bromley, is currently engaged to Joe (Ned Porteous), over a year after she cheated on her husband Billy (Jay Kontzle). Billy recently tried to kiss Dawn, but she pulled back in shock. Caleb Miligan (Will Ash) later told Joe about the kiss, and shortly after, Billy was attacked at the depot. As Billy lay in a coma, Joe was arrested but maintained his innocence.
Wedding week promises drama
Speaking to the Daily Star and other media at a recent Emmerdale press event in Leeds, Laura teased: "Obviously, the run-up to Joe and Dawn's wedding is far from smooth! It's going to be really dramatic, there's lots going on."
She added: "The wedding week itself is probably going to be even more dramatic, let's face it." The producer revealed they had just finished filming the anticipated scenes, which she described as "really exciting".
"What I can tell you is that it's going to be one of the biggest weeks of the year for Emmerdale. It's a week of episodes [that] are going to be full of heartbreak," she said. "I mean, it's typical Emmerdale. But think stunts, heartbreak, tragedy, twists, turns - it's going to have it all. It's going to be amazing."
Big stunt planned
Laura first teased a big stunt week earlier this year, telling Inside Soap: "What we're planning for the end of summer, I don't think I've seen a stunt done quite like this before, so it'll be something a little different."
She added: "We have a big summer planned that's going to be a big peak for us. It's going to drop a big, massive bombshell on the village that will change lives forever, put it that way!"
Emmerdale fans can also look forward to the return of Sadie King, as Patsy Kensit makes her comeback after 20 years. The iconic villain will be sharing an "absolutely shocking" secret, which Laura described as "one of the biggest secrets we've ever had within the King family", adding that "it's going to be pretty explosive".
