Emmerdale viewers have sparked a new theory that John Sugden may already be aware of Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden's affair, thanks to a listening device he planted weeks ago. The revelation comes as Aaron attempts to cover up his betrayal after cheating on husband John with his ex-husband Robert, who is also John's brother.
Fans have recalled a scene from last month in which John bugged the living room with a hidden device while spying on Robert. It was part of John's mission to gather incriminating evidence against Robert, but his plan may have backfired in an unexpected way. The device was planted in the living room, and it is unclear whether John ever removed it.
In Monday's episode, Aaron and Robert gave in to their feelings, sharing a kiss and confessing their emotions in that very same living room. With John's exit from the show already reported, fans are convinced he knows exactly what happened and is simply biding his time before exposing them.
Taking to social media, one viewer wrote: "HOLD ON A SECOND. Aaron and Rob taking about their feelings in the living room… isn’t John's snooping device still plugged in? God I hope he hears every word." Another added: "The fact that John’s recording device is picking up EVERY WORD is so satisfying to me. HEAR THAT JOHNNY BOY, ur plan completely backfired!"
While some fans believe John removed the device, others are convinced it remains active, meaning he could have heard everything. One theory suggests John will keep the information to himself until he chooses to use it, potentially leading to his downfall and an eventual reunion for Aaron and Robert. Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
