Emilia Fox's detective drama Signora Volpe returns to screens tonight, Monday 5 October, with the Silent Witness actress reprising her role as Sylvia Fox. The series, which first aired in 2022, is now premiering its third series on Acorn TV.
Sylvia Fox's Return to Italy
The synopsis reveals that former British spy Sylvia Fox has mentally and physically recovered from her abduction at the end of Season 2 and is back to enjoying her life in Italy. However, she is still waiting for answers from her ex-husband, Adam Haines, about his past dealings with her kidnapper.
Season 3 sees Sylvia investigating the murder of the owner of a local winery and probing the mystery of a beautiful young man found dead in the bed of a power couple who claim never to have seen him before. Meanwhile, Sylvia's relationship with Carabinieri captain Giovanni Riva deepens, but the finalisation of Riva's divorce and his desire to set down roots in Umbria threatens Sylvia's sense of independence.
Premiere Episode Details
The first episode, titled Bitter Harvest, follows a winery owner confiding that someone wants him dead, before Sylvia discovers the man murdered in his vineyard. The episode synopsis goes on to reveal that Riva and Barzini follow the evidence while Sylvia probes the Lazzarini family's secrets, drawing her dangerously close to the killer.
A clip shared exclusively with The Mirror sees Sylvia putting her spy skills to use while on surveillance, but when the situation takes an unexpected turn, she swiftly disarms the person she's been watching and uncovers some revealing pieces of information that could prove to be key to her case. As he holds a gun to her, ordering her to leave, she tells him: “Please, drop the gun,” before turning it onto him. “We need to talk,” she says, explaining who she is as she digs for answers.
Emilia Fox on Her Role
In a recent interview, Emilia spoke about what drew her to the role. She told The Telegraph: “I liked her being a woman at a crossroads in her life, who had given everything to her career but had sacrificed all sorts of personal things along the way, and that she had a choice in the second half of her life. That appealed to me as a subject matter.”
She also hinted at the future of Silent Witness, saying she has no plans to end her role as Nikki Alexander anytime soon. “I don't know if people would want Nikki Alexander forever,” she told the publication. “But I've always said I would do it for as long as I enjoyed it. I still enjoy it.” “My ambition is to keep doing it as I'm doing it now,” she added. “Maybe that's not ambitious. But it feels ambitious to me.”
