EastEnders has confirmed the death of a major character in a brutal storyline, with Jags Panesar (Amar Adatia) being killed in prison after Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) withdrew his protection.
Jags, who had been serving a four-year sentence for a crime he did not commit after being set up by his mother Suki (Balvinder Sopal), was left vulnerable when Ben cancelled the paid-for protection. Ben made the decision after seeing Kheerat (Jaz Deol) with Sharon, leading to tragic consequences.
Suki confronted Ben, screaming that she had paid him to protect her child. Ben later confessed to his husband Callum (Tony Clay): "I called off Jags' protection and now he's dead." Callum vowed to keep the secret, saying, "Then we'll make sure they never find out."
In heartbreaking scenes, Suki is seen blaming Kheerat for Jags' death as the family struggles to come to terms with the tragedy. The episode is available early on iPlayer due to football scheduling.
