EastEnders: Nicola fears for Ryder as Ned's pressure builds

The mystery surrounding the connection Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) has with newcomer Ned Hawkins (Jamie Bamber) continues in EastEnders this week, with the BBC One soap highlighting the relationship she has with Ned’s son Ryder (Felix Uff).

Ned was introduced to viewers when Nicola’s extended family arrived in Walford. He is the husband of Gemma Hawkins (Patricia Potter), who is Nicola’s sister. Pals with Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), Ned seems kind on the surface, but viewers now know there is a darkness to him after he reminded Nicola that they’ve been keeping a secret for 20 years.

Nicola’s 20-Year Secret

The details of the secret were revealed this week, as Ned and Nicola discussed how Nicola was responsible for causing the crash that killed her dad, and Ned helped her cover the death up. Next week, Nicola continues to feel the pressure after Ned blackmailed her for a share in Harry’s Barn.

Back at home, Nicola and Gemma reminisce on old times, but their happy moment is short-lived when Jodie (Anna Constable) unpacks their dad’s medal, and Nicola explodes.

Ned’s Provocation and Ryder’s Tension

In the week, Ned gathers the family at Harry’s Barn to unveil their dad’s framed medal as an attempt to poke at Nicola. The character holds her own and doesn’t bite, much to Ned’s surprise. Later, Nicola senses that tension is brewing between Ryder and Ned, so she takes Ryder for some lunch to try and get him to open up.

The duo continue to bond, but Nicola is shocked when Ryder brings his dad to Harry’s Barn. Later, Ryder asks to speak to Nicola alone – but what will he say? And how will their chat impact whatever is going on between Nicola and Ned?

Star on Ned and Nicola’s Dynamic

Discussing the relationship dynamic between Ned and Nicola, star Jamie Bamber said: ‘It’s clear that Ned and Nicola know each other extremely well, but there’s also something unspoken between them. There’s a fascinating push-and-pull dynamic at play.

‘You get the sense that there’s something that binds them together just as strongly as something keeps them apart. There are secrets and a history that neither of them is willing to talk about openly. Over time, viewers will discover exactly what lies behind that complicated relationship.’
