EastEnders viewers were left stunned on Monday as Jasmine Fisher fled Albert Square after Max Branning exposed her lies to her grandmother Kat Slater. The teenager, who has been at the centre of several major storylines, disappeared without a trace, leaving her boyfriend Oscar Branning a text message saying she was 'better off alone'.
Jasmine had been planning to escape Walford with Oscar, but their plans were thwarted by a lack of funds. She managed to scam money from her grandfather Patrick Trueman but, at Oscar's insistence, returned it. Shortly after doing the right thing, she appeared to skip town, fuelled by fear that the Square would discover she killed her father, Anthony Trueman, in self-defence.
Jasmine had allowed her mother, Zoe Slater, to take the fall for the murder. She convinced Kat that the villainous Chrissie Watts was responsible and pretended to go to the police to get Kat off her back. However, Max discovered from his brother Jack that Jasmine never gave a statement, and he confronted Kat with the truth.
Fans were relieved that Max spilled the beans, with one saying: 'So glad Max told Kat she lied about going to the police. I'm glad Max is looking out for Oscar.' Another added: 'I feel like she hasn't left the country as she has no money so will return soon.' A third commented: 'At least Kat now knows about the exit plan and Jasmine not going to the police. She's getting closer to the truth.'
Jasmine first appeared on EastEnders last year and quickly became embroiled in storylines involving Cindy Beale and the Ford family. She later revealed herself as Zoe Slater's missing child. With Jasmine now gone, Zoe may languish in prison for a life sentence.
