Charlie Brooks is reportedly reprising her role as Janine Butcher in EastEnders, with filming already underway. The actress, 45, first appeared on the BBC soap in 1999 and is said to be involved in scenes that may connect to the Christmas Day special.
Janine was last seen in 2022 after being arrested following the suspected drowning of her fifth husband, Mick Carter (Danny Dyer). She later gave birth to his son in prison after being convicted of perverting the course of justice by framing Linda Carter for a drink-driving crash.
Insiders Tease Dramatic Return
Speaking about the rumoured return, a source told The Sun: "Janine’s appearance is going to blow the roof off Albert Square." Another insider added: "The bosses have several huge stories planned for this autumn, which will all start building towards Christmas. Although Charlie is only reprising her role as Janine for a couple of episodes this time around, her involvement is bound to cause plenty of drama. The plans are being kept top secret as they are really keen fans don’t have the storylines spoilt for them. But no doubt they are going to love seeing Janine back to cause chaos."
Brooks Previously Hinted at Return
Last year, Brooks hinted at a comeback. She said: "I don't think it's closed forever, unless they don't want me back, I'm always open to conversations about going back. Janine is always a fun character to play." She noted that it depends on her other commitments, as she has been busy with theatre work.
Reflecting on her character, she told Mark Wogan's podcast: "I love the people there. I've made some really good friends over the years and so, the beautiful thing about Janine is that you kind of always want to know what she's up to so writers can really do anything and get away with it."
Since leaving EastEnders, Brooks has performed in the stage musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the Child Catcher and competed on Dancing on Ice with Eric Radford.
