EastEnders fans are convinced they have spotted a major twist in the ongoing 'Who Killed Anthony Trueman?' mystery, despite a shocking on-screen confession from his daughter, Jasmine.
A Confession at the Undertakers
In the episode aired on Thursday, 15 January 2026, Jasmine appeared to solve the whodunit by confessing to the corpse of her recently discovered father, Anthony. In a chilling scene at the undertakers, she not only admitted to the Christmas Day killing but also played a video on her phone that seemingly showed her committing the act.
Jasmine revealed she had no regrets, claiming she stopped Anthony from murdering her mother, Zoe Slater. With Zoe currently in prison for the crime and Kat Moon blaming Chrissie Watts, Jasmine's words seemed designed to let Chrissie take the fall.
Viewers Cry 'Red Herring'
However, seasoned soap watchers were immediately sceptical. Many took to social media to argue that the confession, and particularly the video evidence, is a classic EastEnders misdirection.
A key point of contention is the nature of the video footage. It was filmed from a selfie angle, only showing Jasmine's face clearly at the very end. This has led to rampant speculation that someone else could have been present and actually delivered the fatal blow while Jasmine recorded.
The prevailing fan theory suggests that Chrissie Watts was with Jasmine during the confrontation. When Anthony lunged at Jasmine in a rage, Chrissie may have intervened to save her, ultimately killing Anthony.
Fan Theories Run Riot Online
One fan speculated online: "Jasmine video hurting Anthony or her videoing Chrissie hurting Anthony? Either way, she's withholding evidence hence too guilty to go funeral."
Another viewer posted: "I can't help but feel like even though there's the video and Jasmine said what she said, they'll still find a way to reveal Chrissie was also there, and was the actual killer? I don't trust the soaps."
Supporting the Chrissie theory, a third comment read: "This has got Chrissie written all over it for me. It just wouldn't have been worth it if it was Jasmine."
What Happens Next in Walford?
The truth remains buried for now, but with Kat determined to track down Chrissie and free Zoe, the pressure is mounting. If the fan theories are correct, the real killer is still at large in Albert Square, and Jasmine's confession is merely a desperate cover-up.
EastEnders continues to air Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with the mystery of Anthony Trueman's death far from solved.
