E! has cancelled three of its New York-based entertainment news programmes — E! News, Pop Of The Morning, and In The Room — according to Deadline. The shows had paused production in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and remained off air since, leading to their cancellation.
The decision was reportedly driven by financial reasons, as NBCUniversal seeks to cut costs amid the economic impact of the pandemic. The network plans to consolidate its production operations on the West Coast.
The cancellations come a year after E! expanded its entertainment news programming under Tammy Filler, who joined from Today in May 2019. That expansion saw E! News move from Los Angeles to New York and shift from an evening to a morning show.
In The Room featured in-depth celebrity interviews, while Pop Of The Morning offered panel discussions on entertainment stories. Further programming cuts, executive changes, and layoffs are expected across NBCUniversal’s English-language TV divisions, as CEO Jeff Shell confirmed a forthcoming overhaul.
