The second season of Apple TV+'s 'Drops of God' has concluded with a sombre finale, a stark contrast to the joyful ending of its first season. The episode, titled 'The Price of Passion,' sees Camille Leger (Fleur Geffrier) and her half-brother Issei Tomine (Tomohisa Yamashita) complete another posthumous challenge set by their late father, Alexandre. However, the journey comes at a great cost.
Camille has alienated her fiancée Thomas, resigned from her role at Alexandre's wine guide, and failed to preserve the mystery wine she traced to a household producer in Georgia. Meanwhile, Issei is processing the suicide of his mother Honoka, who was ashamed of her lack of connection with him. The finale ends with the siblings standing together, looking into the sunset, as Issei opens his arms to Camille.
The show's team, led by producer Klaus Zimmermann, decided to continue the story after Apple TV expressed interest, despite the manga on which it is based having ended. Zimmermann noted the risk but also the fun of extending the narrative. Writer Sonia Moyersoen provided continuity between seasons, with Zimmermann calling her 'the heart and soul of the show.'
Season 2 focuses more on Issei, who takes up freediving to confront his fears. Yamashita, who prepared for the role by diving up to 15 meters, found the experience unpleasant but understood its purpose in helping his character face his trauma alone. The season explores how wine has become central to Camille's life, while Issei, having found a sister but lost the competition, is in a dark place.
