The eight-part thriller Down Cemetery Road, based on Mick Herron's debut novel, has been released, starring Oscar winner Emma Thompson as private investigator Zoë Boehm and Ruth Wilson as art restorer Sarah Tucker. The series, adapted by Morwenna Banks, comes from the creator of the acclaimed Slow Horses.
The plot follows Sarah Tucker, who becomes obsessed with finding a young neighbour after a house explosion kills two adults and injures the child. She enlists the help of Zoë Boehm and her husband Joe, played by Adam Godley, as they uncover a conspiracy involving the Ministry of Defence and a rogue agent.
The supporting cast includes Tom Riley as Sarah's husband Mark, Tom Goodman-Hill as a wealthy client, Sinead Matthews as a friend, and Adeel Akhtar and Darren Boyd as intelligence handlers. Early reviews have highlighted Thompson's performance, with one critic calling it 'magnificent' and praising the 'pacy, twisty' plot.
Down Cemetery Road smooths out elements from the book, bringing Zoë to the fore earlier, while retaining the dry humour and acuity of Herron's writing. The series is now available to watch.
