Apple TV+ has released the highly-anticipated thriller Down Cemetery Road, an eight-part series adapted from Mick Herron's debut novel of the same name. The show, written by Morwenna Banks, who also worked on the Emmy-winning espionage drama Slow Horses, has received four- and five-star reviews from critics, who have described it as "grisly" and "magnificent."
The story follows two women who become entangled in a complex conspiracy after a girl disappears from a quiet Oxford suburb. The synopsis reads: "When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbour Sarah Trafford (Wilson) becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson). Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead."
The cast is led by multi-award-winning actors Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. Thompson, 66, plays private investigator Zoë Boehm. She is known for her roles in Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, the Harry Potter films, and Nanny McPhee. Wilson, 43, portrays Sarah Trafford, an art conservationist. Her notable credits include His Dark Materials, Luther, and The Affair. She has won a Laurence Olivier Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA Cymru.
Other cast members include Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Downey, known for Misfits and Black Doves; Tom Goodman-Hill as Gerard Inchon, known for Baby Reindeer; Darren Boyd as C, head of the Ministry of Defence, known for Spy; and Adeel Akhtar as Hamza Malik, known for Killing Eve and Murdered by My Father.
