Paramount+ has cancelled the Dexter prequel series Original Sin just weeks after a second season was reported to be in development. The spin-off, which starred Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, debuted in 2024 and explored the character's early years as he learned to channel his homicidal urges according to 'the code' taught by his adoptive father Harry.
The show featured Christian Slater as Harry Morgan and received considerable interest from fans of the original series. Despite early hype and a reported renewal in April, Variety has confirmed that the series will not return for another outing. The cancellation comes as a surprise given the ongoing popularity of the Dexter franchise.
However, fans still have Dexter: Resurrection to look forward to. Paramount+ has opened a writers' room for the new spin-off, which brings Michael C. Hall back as the iconic serial killer. The ten-episode series picks up after the events of Dexter: New Blood, with Dexter awakening from a coma and heading to New York City to find his missing son Harrison.
The cast includes returning actors James Remar, David Zayas, and Jack Alcott, alongside new additions Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian. Dexter: Resurrection is currently streaming on Netflix, while Dexter: New Blood is available on Paramount+.
