Things became tense on the latest episode of This Morning as Dermot O'Leary issued a stern warning to Gyles Brandreth. Presenters Dermot and Alison Hammond were back for Friday's edition of the ITV show, later joined by Gyles and Ashley James for the Morning View segment discussing news headlines.
Political Discussion Heats Up
The atmosphere shifted when Dermot and Gyles discussed politics. Sharing thoughts on Britain's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, Gyles compared him to former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Insinuating that Andy has lifted the nation's morale despite being appointed on Monday, Gyles said he was impressed with Andy's approach.
Gyles stated: "I'm giving good marks to Andy Burnham for his first week. I think atmosphere, tone do make a difference. It's the centenary of Winnie-the-Pooh, we all know an Eeyore. We were all a bit gloomy and maybe Keir Starmer was a bit gloomy."
Dermot Interjects
Dermot stopped Gyles and said: "Don't be doing this. You're better than that, you are! No, because we talked about this in private. You know that Starmer, to be fair to him, was a big picture politician." Gyles interjected: "I'm saying something important; I'm not being trivial here. I'm saying that tone of voice and atmosphere makes a difference."

Andy Burnham's Plans
On Monday, Prime Minister Andy stepped into his new position, becoming the UK’s seventh prime minister in a decade. Outside 10 Downing Street, he set out plans: "Later this year, I will bring forward a new plan for Britain, a 10-year plan... I can do something to give people some breathing space now, some help with the cost of living. And I will set out some of those measures starting tomorrow, including how we pay for them. We will help more young people into work by changing the education system and giving them more support, more mental health support. And we will build more council homes." Andy also plans to end homelessness in the UK.
