Delta Goodrem has admitted that competing in the Eurovision Song Contest feels 'a bit wild' two decades into her career. The Australian singer, 41, was announced as Australia's act for Eurovision 2026 earlier this year, with her song 'Eclipse' already making her one of the favourites to win.
Goodrem, who signed her first recording contract at age 15 and has sold over nine million albums worldwide, said the timing was never right until last year. 'When I was doing shows in Hackney last year, Eurovision was on and I was getting to see it for the first time,' she explained. 'I was asked if I was open to it, and I said I was.'
The singer, also known for her role in Neighbours and as a coach on The Voice Australia, said she moved with passion when the opportunity came. 'When it eventually landed, I looked at it like "this is a bit wild and I'm excited".' Her song 'Eclipse' debuted at number 13 on the ARIA Australian Artist Singles Chart, and fans have praised it as 'winner material'.
Goodrem refused to be drawn on whether she feels pressure due to her established career. 'All I know is I really hope people enjoy what I do out there and they feel connected to what I'm doing,' she said. 'People who might have had my records for a long time... I feel really grateful. But hopefully they will vote!'
Reflecting on her time as a coach on The Voice, she said it taught her a lot. 'I was only 26 when I joined... I was always learning from them, as well as the artists.' Goodrem is the only contestant this year who has mentored acts rather than competed on a reality show herself.
