Don Warrington, who plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson in the BBC crime drama Death in Paradise, has given fans a behind-the-scenes look at the new season. The 72-year-old actor shared photos on Instagram, including one of him next to a police car with Ginny Holder's character Darlene Curtis, and another showing him in character on a basketball court.
The update comes as Don Gilet, 57, gears up to replace Ralf Little as the lead detective. Gilet will debut as Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson in a Christmas special later this year, before a full series in 2025. His character arrives from London and is initially displeased with his new surroundings on the island of Saint Marie.
Gilet, known for roles in EastEnders and Sherwood, has begun filming in Guadeloupe alongside regular cast members including Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine, and Danny John-Jules. In a statement, Gilet described the role as 'a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel' and expressed his gratitude and dedication.
Former lead Ralf Little left the show after five years, with his final appearance in March's series 13 finale. Little called playing DI Neville Parker an 'absolute privilege'. Some fans have expressed mixed feelings about Gilet's casting, noting he previously appeared in a 2015 episode as a murderer.
