A Death In Paradise star has made an unexpected return to the BBC in Beyond Paradise. Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, played by Don Warrington, appeared in the latest episode as a surprise best man for DI Humphrey Goodman.
Humphrey, who left Saint Marie to return to the UK, was stunned when his partner Martha organised a surprise wedding. In a poignant moment, Martha told him: "I nearly forgot - I found you a best man too," as the camera revealed Selwyn, who said: "Nice of you to join us Inspector Goodman."
Selwyn's return follows his departure from Death In Paradise, where he was replaced by Sterling Fox. After being offered his job back, Selwyn chose to leave the island and travel the world, much to the dismay of Catherine Bordey.
In the previous series, Selwyn's replacement Sterling Fox arrived in Saint Marie, leading to tension. Sterling described Selwyn as a "living legend," but Selwyn quipped: "Makes you wonder why they're getting rid of me."
