EastEnders star Danny Dyer has admitted he was initially reluctant for his daughter Dani to appear on ITV2’s Love Island, saying he “didn’t want her to do it” and “feared it as a father”. Speaking on Good Evening Britain, Dyer described the reality programme as a “nutty thing” and a “game show”, but praised his daughter for conducting herself with “self-respect and dignity”.
Dyer also launched a sharp attack on former Prime Minister David Cameron over the Brexit referendum, asking: “How come he can scuttle off? He brought all this on. Where is he? He’s in Nice, with his trotters up.” He added: “I think he should be held accountable for it.”
When asked by Piers Morgan whether he would have preferred Dani to pursue a traditional acting route, Dyer defended her choice, noting that reality TV offers an “instant” career path. “Some of these young kids can’t be bothered with that real struggle, that rejection in acting… why not go and try something like Love Island? She can earn loads of money and crack right on.”
Dyer also commented on Dani’s new boyfriend on the show, Jack Fincham, saying he “seems like a good kid”. Meanwhile, the ratings battle between Good Evening Britain and Love Island saw the former claim a peak of 5.2 million viewers, though average figures showed Love Island narrowly ahead with 3.116 million versus 3.103 million.
