Coronation Street's social worker Ruth is back on the cobbles, and viewers may recognise actress Amy Drake from a host of other TV shows.
Ruth first appeared on the ITV soap in 2024 and has made several visits since, usually helping Weatherfield residents. Earlier this year, she assisted Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and his son Bertie after a teacher raised concerns. Recently, she returned to help the Metcalfe family with foster care placements for Lucy (Anya Dewin).
Ruth's role in the Metcalfe storyline
Lucy is the daughter of Tim's (Joe Duttine) estranged cousin Richie (Nathan Sussex), who ended up murdering his wife. After police officer Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) confirmed that Richie has been charged with the murder, she told Tim and Sally (Sally Dynevor) that Lucy has been taken into care, while Richie claims he acted in self-defence.
In Thursday's episode (August 13), Ruth contacted Tim to say Lucy's foster placements had fallen through. Although sympathetic, Sally knew they already had their hands full with the Michaelis children. However, Tim agreed to let Lucy stay at their home, much to Sally's shock. Ruth then told the couple that Lucy was suffering from trauma and grief following her mum's murder.
Amy Drake's other TV credits
Amy Drake has appeared in Hollyoaks, Cold Feet, Brassic, Malpractice and Doctors. She also had a stint on Emmerdale, playing both a receptionist and a paramedic. In 2021, she played Debbie in the BBC BAFTA-winning sitcom Alma's Not Normal, created and written by Sophie Willian.
Meanwhile, Lucy actress Anya recently shared a photo on Instagram of herself outside the Rovers Return, writing: "I still can't quite believe I get to say this, but I'm so grateful to be joining the cast of Coronation Street!"
