Coronation Street villain Jodie Ramsey has finally been caught out amid her latest wicked scheme, as her past and motives come under scrutiny in Wednesday's episode of the world's longest-running TV soap.
The complicated character arrived as part of the programme's crossover with fellow ITV soap Emmerdale earlier this year, tied up in the back of a van, and quickly announced herself as the estranged sister of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), who had never mentioned her before. Viewers are still none the wiser as to what Jodie's story is, but there is something mysterious about her. She has previously stolen various items from neighbours, tried to pass herself off as her sister to others before making her believe she is going crazy, and is now trying to seduce her brother-in-law David (Jack P Shepherd).
Jodie's scheme uncovered
On Wednesday's episode, Jodie (Olivia Frances-Brown) called round to the salon and asked for a blow dry from David, claiming she had a date. But as soon as she was all made up, she said she had received a text from her supposed date and burst into tears as David took pity on her. She then invited him to share a bottle of champagne which she conveniently had in her handbag.
Jodie and David had a heart-to-heart, and she hugged him just as she was about to leave but then saw her dad Doug staring in through the salon window. Once outside, he told her: "That's Shona's husband. Back off! There'll just be trouble again." But in classic Jodie style, she remained calm as she accused her father of misreading the situation and then messed with his head by trying to tell him that he had messed up his bipolar medication. Doug said: "I saw you all smitten over him. I've seen it before," but, undeterred, Jodie offered to take him to hospital.
Fans react to the drama
Reacting to the scenes, one fan said: "It's a targeted campaign by Jodie to systematically & slowly destroy Shona's life in any way possible, to get her own back for abandoning her as a child apparently. I'd rather she do it quickly & bog off! Unfortunately that's not happening." Another wrote on X: "Does Jodie actually like David or is she just using him in her plot to destroy Shona?" and a third wrote: "I think she is motivated by a need to cause chaos & ruin lives rather than by any real interest in David."
Spoilers have already revealed that a gun is fired, and seemingly someone is shot as a flashforward reveals the moment paramedics tend to an injured character. As Jodie and Shona battle it out, it seems, will someone die? Ahead of the dramatic moment, Jodie tampers with her dad Doug's medication and claims he is a danger to the family, leading a mental health team to arrive to assess him. Doug is led away, but he quickly warns Shona to watch out for Jodie. Bethany Platt seems to be on to Jodie too, when Shona admits her own mental health concerns.
Shooting horror looms
When Bethany catches Jodie red handed, Jodie turns the tables with her own plan to keep Bethany quiet. Shona soon realises that she's been set up though, with the constant baby crying noises. Shona admits the noises that no one else can hear sounds like a recording. Jodie does the unthinkable and sets up Shona's teenaged stepdaughter Lily. When Lily's phone is plugged into the docking station at the Bistro, suddenly the room is filled with the sound of Harper crying. Lily is accused of recording the crying to make Shona think she was losing her mind, but she denies this.
Soon Shona and Jodie clash, as accusations fly and secrets are exposed. As one of them is pushed to their limit, a weapon is drawn and a gunshot rings out. But who has been shot and will they survive? David calls for an ambulance and explains that someone has been shot. The paramedics arrive, and detective Lisa Swain, as Weatherfield's busiest detective, questions David about the shooting. Will David be able to shed any light?
