Coronation Street viewers are convinced that villain Carl Webster is heading for a dramatic downfall after his latest despicable actions. The brother of Kevin and Debbie Webster has been involved in a string of crimes, including car theft, fake MOTs, and an affair with sister-in-law Abi Franklin. He has also been secretly seeing James Bailey behind Abi's back and was responsible for the hit-and-run that injured Tyrone Dobbs, leaving fans desperate to see him punished.
However, his most recent behaviour has been described as his cruellest yet, as he exploits his sister Debbie's dementia diagnosis. Carl has been manipulating Debbie, attempting to gain access to her hotel's business accounts while she becomes increasingly forgetful. Viewers fear he intends to fleece his own sister at a time when she is at her most vulnerable, with many branding the storyline the final straw and calling for him to be exposed.
Social media has been flooded with reactions, with one fan writing: "Cant stand him. Someone has to catch him." Another added: "Is he going to get caught out for EVERYTHING at Christmas? Tyrone, Debbie, Abi, James, they’ll all want a piece of him!" Speculation is rife over who will bring Carl to justice, with names such as Kevin, Abi, Debbie's partner Ronnie Bailey, and James Bailey all being touted as potential candidates.
Some fans have suggested practical ways the truth could emerge, with one commenting: "Debbie must have accountants checking the hotel books. Surely there will be investigations if things don't add up." Another proposed: "She should give him limited access and give the same access to Ronnie so he can keep an eye out for anything dodgy. Then when she confronts Carl, with Ronnie backing her, he can't claim she's confused because of her dementia."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
