Coronation Street is reportedly set to kill off Billy Mayhew after 11 years, with actor Daniel Brocklebank leaving the ITV soap. The character, an archdeacon, is said to be written out in one of the biggest festive storylines.
Bosses are said to have informed Brocklebank earlier this year that his character would be axed, with no plans for a return. A source told The Sun: "There aren't any plans to bring him back onto the soap so it makes sense make his exit the most impactful and explosive it can be. It's likely Billy will be a focus point of the Christmas/New Year storylines, with fans expected to be at the edge of their seats in the run-up."
Brocklebank previously expressed sadness at leaving, saying: "I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work." His partner, Jordan Coulthard, later claimed the decision was not led by Daniel, branding it a "huge mistake".
Producer Kate Brooks paid tribute, saying Billy will be involved in a major storyline testing his faith and friendships. She added: "We're incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie's biggest storylines over the past few years."
