ITV's landmark Corriedale special, which aired on the evening of 6 January 2026, delivered the dramatic crossover fans had been waiting for, but one hilarious moment ended up on the cutting room floor.
The Dramatic Collision That Started It All
The hour-long episode saw the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale violently collide following a catastrophic multi-vehicle pile-up. The chain of events began when Becky crashed into a car carrying John Sugden and Aaron Dingle. This was swiftly followed by a collision involving a minibus, driven by a drunk Carl Webster and carrying Billy Mayhew among others.
The aftermath landed numerous characters from both soaps in hospital, setting the stage for several unlikely meetings. Ahead of the broadcast, viewers voted for their preferred 'dream duo' to share a scene, with Charity Dingle and Carla Connor ultimately winning the popular vote.
The Deleted Scene That Fans Can Now Watch
While pairings like Roy Cropper with Nicola King and Ross Barton with Tracy Barlow weren't featured in the main show, ITV has now unveiled one of the unused encounters. In the 20-minute behind-the-scenes special, Corriedale: Backstage Pass, hosted by Luis Elkes, the final clip reveals the deleted meeting between Coronation Street's Kirk Sutherland and Emmerdale's Sam Dingle.
The scene, described as hilarious, takes place in the hospital corridor where both men are bewildered by a map. Kirk explains he's lost the people he was giving a lift to and needs to find A&E, referencing the major crash. Sam reveals his family members were involved, stating, "Aaron were in one of the cars. Charity were in another. I think our Cain's been shot again."
Dingle Giggles and a Secret Dachshund
Upon hearing the famous surname, Kirk can't contain his amusement, repeatedly laughing, "Dingle? You're called Dingle? Dingle!" A deeply unimpressed Sam retorts, "There's nothing funny about it!" After a quick apology, Kirk makes his exit, mentioning his pet Peanut needs dinner.
The camera then pans down to reveal Kirk had smuggled his pet dachshund into the hospital in his coat. Sam warns him that dogs likely aren't allowed, to which Kirk replies, "It's a good job I ran into you. Someone with smarts," before wandering off.
The special, featuring this scene and other interviews, was made available on ITVX and YouTube shortly after the main episode aired. Fans have flocked to social media to express their delight, with one viewer joking about the pair's "combined IQ of a literal peanut," and others demanding the scene be edited back into the special, questioning why such a gem was cut in the first place.
