Coronation Street's Bernie Winter is set to be terrorised by a stalker, as new villain Mal Roper takes his obsession to dangerous extremes. The character, played by Jane Hazelgrove, first encountered Mal at a hotel where she took drugs with him while grieving for her friend Billy Mayhew. Now, Mal has followed her to Weatherfield, working as an electrician in Roy Cropper's flat to stay close.
Despite promising to leave after his work is done, Mal's behaviour grows increasingly sinister. He tries to force a connection with Bernie by claiming a shared interest in crystals, and locks her in the café to declare his feelings. When Bernie rejects him, Mal turns threatening, leaving her terrified.
The situation escalates when Bernie discovers that someone has cut her head out of her wedding photos. Meanwhile, police officer Kit Green is shocked to learn that Mal has been found in the street with a critical head injury, raising questions about what happened.
Bernie is now trapped in a nightmare, fearing that Mal will reveal their drug-fueled night to her husband Dev Alahan if she tries to end his advances. The storyline promises dramatic twists as the true extent of Mal's obsession unfolds.
