Coronation Street Star Sparks Exit Fears After Teasing Break

Coronation Street actress Sally Ann Matthews, who has played Jenny Connor since 1986, has sparked fears among fans that she may be leaving the soap after teasing a lengthy break from the show. During an Instagram live session, the 53-year-old revealed she has been enjoying time off, including trips to Cyprus, and hinted that viewers won't see her character for a while.

Matthews said: 'I've got like a million years off, so I chose to go on an aeroplane. I've been to Cyprus twice in the past five weeks.' She added: 'You're not going to be seeing Jenny for quite a long while. So that's that.' The actress also joked about finding a new job, saying: 'At some point, I might get a job and someone might employ me, potentially.'

However, a source has claimed that Matthews has no plans to permanently leave the long-running ITV soap. The news comes shortly after Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, announced she is leaving Coronation Street after 50 years. Worth will film her final scenes in July 2024, with her exit airing later this year.

Worth said: 'This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.' Her co-stars have paid tribute, with Tina O'Brien calling her 'amazing' and Samia Longchambon saying she will be missed.
