Claire Sweeney has addressed the burning question about her character Cassie Plummer's fate after leaving Coronation Street. The actress, who played Cassie in the ITV soap, has revealed she doesn't know whether her character survives the dramatic exit.
Cassie's Exit and the Unanswered Question
Earlier this week, Cassie announced she had landed a job on a cruise ship and was leaving Weatherfield. This exit was not surprising to fans, as it was previously revealed that Claire would be leaving to take on the role of Miss Hannigan in the touring production of Annie.
The exit came after a series of events involving Ross Wilkes, revealed as Tyrone's long-lost father. Cassie tried to expose Ross's past, revealing he paid her for sex when she was 15, leading to Tyrone's birth. After Ross threatened her, Cassie spiked his drink, but he swapped it with Tracy, who ended up in hospital.
Claire's Response on the Podcast
Appearing on the Conversation Street podcast, Claire said: "I come out the stage door last night and there was some people who watch Corrie there. And they said, 'So what happens? What happens after that?'" She admitted she doesn't know what happens next, saying: "I don't actually know... So I don't know whether I live or die. The scene I've filmed, I don't die, but who knows? When I put the telly on a week or two later, I don't know. It's in the hands of the writers now."
Tribute to Corrie
Claire also paid tribute to her time on the show, saying: "Three years. What an incredible journey." She praised her co-stars, including Dame Maureen Lipman and Alan Halsall, and reflected on her memorable moments, from her first scene to scrapping on the cobbles with Tracy Barlow.
