Next week on Coronation Street, a family feud reaches a potentially fatal climax, a mother struggles with deep loss, and the truth finally comes out. The war Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) has been secretly waging against her sister, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), comes to an explosive head. After effectively removing her dad, Doug (Steve Evets), in one of the most cruel moves yet, the stage is set for a sister vs sister showdown. Once a gun comes into play, all bets are off – but which sister will end up on the receiving end of a bullet?
Jodie's scheme escalates
On Monday, October 5, as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) worries to Jodie about Doug's mental health, Shona worries to Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) about her own, revealing that she often hears Harper crying when she isn't there. Jodie calls Doug's doctor and tells him that Doug has become a danger to his immediate family and himself, prompting the mental health team to arrive and collect him. As Shona apologises to him as he's led away, he warns her about Jodie and her games. Later, Bethany catches Jodie in one of her wicked schemes, but is shut down immediately.
Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) ignores George's advice to be cautious when it comes to Lucy, and when Sally later finds Lucy and Christina having a drink in the café, she sends Lucy home. Agreeing to speak to social services and follow their advice, Sally demands Christina stay clear of Lucy until then. Elsewhere, Summer learns that Marco has been in a car accident, though as she arrives at A&E, she discovers that he crashed while acting as a getaway driver.
The truth comes out
On Wednesday, October 7, Jodie is shaken when she returns home and finds Shona tearing the living room apart; she heard the crying again but is certain that it's a recording, not the real thing. Later, at the bistro for Shona's birthday party, the room is filled with the sound of Harper crying. When Shona finds Lily Platt's (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) phone plugged into the speaker system, she goes for her, accusing her of trying to convince her that she was becoming mentally unwell. A devastated Lily refutes the accusations, but Shona is unrelenting and, eventually, Lily flees the party.
George and Todd are worried to find Rachel's ashes – and Christina – missing and set about finding her. Finding her on the swings in the precinct with the ashes, she hands them over to George before he hands her a photo frame, containing a picture of Rachel and one of Daisy. Meanwhile, Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) tells Sam that she trusts him enough to offer him a job at Speed Daal, though he's unable to resist stealing Idris Nazir's (Junade Khan) credit card. Summer is angered when Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) and Todd suggest she's better off without Marco after he's denied bail.
Final showdown
On Thursday, October 8, in a terrifying flash forward, the Platt's house is in chaos with someone's belongings tossed all throughout, as paramedics tend to a medical emergency on the floor before we head back to the beginning of the night. It's the final showdown for Shona and Jodie, as the two sisters go head to head. As accusations are thrown and deep-held secrets are finally revealed, one of them finally reaches their limit and moves to act. When somebody pulls out a gun, it becomes clear how dangerous the situation has become and, soon, the gun is fired. As someone lies on the ground, having been hit with a bullet, the Platts as a whole are absolutely shaken to their foundations.
Aftermath and revelations
On Friday, October 9, at the hospital, a nurse urges Kit to speak to his bosses about his chemotherapy as soon, he won't be able to continue working. Heading to work, Kit finds Lisa after she's learned that he's called in sick three times this week, as she furiously types up her notes following the shooting on the street. As she lays into him for his recent conduct, she's stopped in her tracks when he tells her the truth about his condition, before pledging to support him in any way that she can.
David desperately calls an ambulance and reports the shooting to the emergency services, and paramedics and firearms officers descend on the street, as Lisa begins to question him. Also, Idris finds Sam about to use his credit card, and he confesses all about Nick Tilsley's (Ben Price) debt. Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) worry that the gun used in the shooting was Fiona Morley's (Sara Poyzer), while Todd is unimpressed when Marco sends Summer a visiting order.
