Coronation Street fans are in for a shock as Carl Webster, played by Jonathan Howard, engages in a surprise romantic encounter with James Bailey in Friday's episode. The development follows Carl's earlier affair with his brother's wife, Abi Webster, who has left the cobbles with Kevin.
New images released by ITV show Carl and James cosying up in a hotel room, with the pair vowing to meet again. Actor Jonathan Howard explained his character's motivations, saying: 'Carl likes living life on the edge, he is a hedonist and a free spirit. He is attracted to a person regardless of their gender.'
Howard added: 'He is frustrated that Abi has gone away with Kevin and he needs something to distract himself. There is a spark between him and James so he goes for it.' Meanwhile, Tracy Barlow had been making advances towards Carl, but he rebuffs her, knowing it would be a dangerous move.
