Coronation Street will feature a fresh murder twist on the cobbles next week. In episodes airing later this week, Tim Metcalfe is floored when he picks up his cousin Richie, whom he hasn't seen in years, as a fare in the precinct.
Richie's Arrival
Actor Nathan Sussex takes on the role of Tim's cousin, Richie. Nathan, 51, is most recognised for his portrayal of Buster Smith in Hollyoaks between 2018 and 2021. His other credits include The Good Ship Murder, Believe Me, and Midsomer Murders - amongst others.
In the forthcoming episode, while Sally is away, Tim extends an invitation to Richie for drinks with the lads. As the cousins recall their childhood together, Richie opens up to Tim about his troubled marriage, reports the Daily Star.
A Shocking Discovery
Subsequently, Tim offers him somewhere to sleep for the night, which Richie happily accepts. However, moving forward to next week, soap spoilers reveal a concerning development that will devastate Sally.
In the coming scenes, Richie receives a text from his wife, Rachel, and informs Tim that he's in trouble for being out all night. Meanwhile, upon Sally's return home, Tim maintains he had a quiet evening playing board games with the lads.
Richie shortly returns, carrying a holdall and revealing that Rachel has kicked him out. Tim awkwardly introduces his cousin to Sally and admits they became intoxicated and he spent the night, leaving Sally with little choice but to allow Richie to stay a bit longer.
The following day, Sally tells Tim she wants Richie gone. Richie assures Tim he will leave to stay with a friend in Liverpool. As Tim helps Richie into his taxi, he encourages him not to abandon his marriage but to return home and discuss matters with Rachel.
Later on, Tim discovers Richie's wallet wedged down the sofa and heads round to Richie's house. However, when Richie opens the door, he is disoriented with a blood-splattered shirt. A horrified Tim looks inside and calls the police...
Aftermath and Family Turmoil
After the harrowing incident, Tim and Sally sit in shocked silence following a sleepless night when DS Lisa Swain calls round and confirms that they've charged Richie with the murder of his wife. In a further twist, Lisa reveals to Tim and Sally that their daughter Lucy has been taken into care and Richie maintains he acted in self defence.
Later in the week, social worker Ruth informs Sally that Lucy's foster placement has collapsed and they're battling to locate another appropriate family. Upon hearing this news, Tim arranges for Lucy to live with them, without asking Sally first. When Lucy turns up, Sally manages a forced smile.
Meanwhile, Ruth explains that Lucy is experiencing grief and trauma and needs reassurance. As Sally goes upstairs to collect Lucy for tea, she's horrified to discover she's done a runner. Sally and Tim locate Lucy at the bus stop and convince her to return home.
Matters deteriorate further later in the week when a scream rouses Sally and Tim, who find Lucy wide-eyed after a terrible nightmare.
Tim irritates Sally by attempting to shift his own guilt, suggesting Rachel would still be alive if Sally had allowed Richie to remain. Subsequently, Lily Platt encounters Lucy by herself in Victoria Garden.
When Lucy disregards her, Lily brands her a freak and attempts to depart, but Lucy seizes Lily's arm until Jodie Ramsey steps in.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
