Coronation Street fans have been left gobsmacked after discovering the famous voices behind the beloved toys Connie and Trevor, who appear in Argos sponsorship adverts for the ITV soap. The two toys have been featured before each episode since 2023, with dinosaur Trevor and doll Connie settling in to watch the show together, often making references to Corrie while showcasing Argos products.
Voices Revealed: Charlie Cooper and Ruth Bratt
It turns out that Trevor is voiced by award-winning actor Charlie Cooper, best known for playing Lee "Kurtan" Mucklowe in the BBC Three series This Country, which he co-created and co-wrote with his sister Daisy May Cooper. Charlie won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Scripted Comedy for the show. He has also appeared in Stath Let Flats, Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, Paramount+ series Stags, and fronted his own documentary Charlie Cooper's Myth Country in 2024.
Connie is voiced by Ruth Bratt, a comedian and actress who appeared in the BAFTA-winning BBC2 series People Just Do Nothing. She has also starred in Ricky Gervais' show Derek and Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive.
Fan Reactions
Fans were stunned after realising the voices behind the toys. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one person said: "Did anyone else know Kurtan from This Country voices Trevor." Another added: "I thought it was Kurtan!!! Thank you for confirming." A third chimed in: "No way." Someone else declared: "Heartbreaking when Alexa tells him that Weatherfield isn't a real place. I love his voice."
Charlie Cooper's Surprise and Past at Argos
Previously discussing voicing Trevor, Charlie shared his shock, especially as he used to work at the retailer years before finding fame. "It is a bit baffling that I'm in the adverts," Charlie admitted to Metro. Talking about his exit from Argos when he worked there, he added: "I accidentally gave away a computer for free. It's not as bad as it sounds."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
