Coronation Street viewers have been left shocked after discovering the true age of Kyran Bowes, the actor who plays Jack Webster. While Jack was born on-screen in September 2010 and is currently 15 years old, Kyran is actually 18 and will turn 19 on April 28.
Jack Webster first appeared in the ITV soap in 2010, born from an affair between Kevin Webster and Molly Dobbs. Molly tragically died later that year in the tram crash, leaving Tyrone Dobbs to raise Jack as his own. In recent years, Jack has been central to storylines including a sepsis battle that led to the amputation of his leg.
Fans took to a Coronation Street Facebook fan page to express their surprise. One commented: “Jack's only 18 in real life! That's the trouble when they cast older kids that play younger ones - they grow up beyond years they're portraying!” Another wrote: “Seriously? WTF??? No way. lol.”
Kyran Bowes has been portraying Jack since 2016, taking over from the original child actor. The character has recently been involved in emotional scenes as his father Kevin struggled with depression, leading Jack to move out and stay with Abi Webster.
