Lauren Bolton shoves Dylan Wilson to the ground in new Coronation Street scenes, leaving him unconscious after his head hits the pavement. Fans have already expressed their frustration at Lauren's latest move in Betsy Swain's emotional health storyline.
In the upcoming scenes, Dylan tries to spend time with Betsy before he is attacked. A spoiler video has revealed what happens: when Dylan hears footsteps behind him, he thinks it's Brody Michaelis, but it's Lauren. She lays into him for hurting Betsy, shoving him to the ground. Dylan's head cracks on the pavement. While Lauren is worried, she flees. As Dylan loses consciousness, Nina Lucas hurries over. In hospital, Dylan wakes up, but will he tell who attacked him?
What led to the attack?
Lauren has been supporting Betsy after the teen suffered two life-altering strokes in scenes aired last month. The strokes were caused by a blood clot, the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. Doctors later spoke to Betsy about the cause, and she had to explain to her mum, DS Connor-Swain, that her boyfriend Dylan had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Betsy was told she could make a "good recovery", but she pleaded with her mum to leave Dylan alone. Her mum had reported Dylan to the police, and Betsy could have faced charges if she gave a statement, which she did not. When Lauren learned Betsy wasn't pressing charges, she was furious, feeling it let Dylan get away with what happened.
Dylan later admitted to Betsy that he understood what had happened, thanks to Ryan Connor stepping in and speaking to him about the cause of Betsy's strokes, and told his girlfriend he would do anything to put it right. In the upcoming scenes, spoilers confirmed Dylan would try to spend time with Betsy before the attack.
Fan reaction
Coronation Street fans have taken to social media to react to Lauren's latest move, which comes after she turned her life around following her ordeal with solicitor Joel Deering.
@griannedoherty said: "Oh no! This really isn't good, especially with Lauren having previous. Mean, totally get where she's coming from but this is completely different to what she went through with Joel & when Betsy finds out? That's one genuine friendship destroyed for good potentially sadly #Corrie."
@TVMusings26 commented: "I hate that Lauren has done this to Dylan...Of course I understand her motives and her trauma but two wrongs don't make a right in this situation. #Corrie It's almost a bit vigilante, she's still not listening to Betsy and is taking the law into her own hands, that's not going to help any of them. Dylan has done wrong, how he handled this whole situation has not painted him in good light so far. However now Lauren has joined him in the exact same boat - the only difference is her attacking him had clear intent. Absolutely no one is fixed, it still remains broken. Also the way Dylan hit his head - he could've died."
@RyanSoapKing25 added: "#Corrie #Swarla Can't lie I'm slightly unimpressed with Lauren here - I get that she's trying to protect Betsy but what is attacking Dylan going to achieve? Other then destory her friendship with Betsy and put her at risk of losing Frankie - not that she shares any scenes with him anyway. After what she went through with Joel - this feels like a trigger response from Lauren."
