Coronation Street fans believe they have uncovered Cassie Plummer's dramatic exit storyline after a confusing encounter with Tyrone Dobbs's father, Ross Wilkes. The character, played by Claire Sweeney, is set to leave the ITV soap later this year.
Cassie's Confusing Encounter
In Wednesday's episode (July 8), Cassie was seen drinking at the Chariot Square Hotel after being rejected by Steve McDonald. She began talking to a man at the bar, unaware that he was Ross Wilkes, Tyrone's biological father. The man's behaviour turned controlling, warning her to stop making a scene. After he left, Cassie saw the bar tab and realized his identity.
Viewers were puzzled by Cassie's failure to recognize Ross, but past storylines explain that Cassie had been forced into sex work as a minor, and her father discovered the truth. Evelyn Plummer, Cassie's mother, later realized that Tyrone's father must have been one of Cassie's clients.
Exit Speculation
Claire Sweeney announced her departure to pursue a dream theatre role, leading to an "explosive" exit for Cassie. Fans on social media speculated that Cassie might murder Ross and go to prison. @KatieJukesy tweeted: "Cassie to murder her r_____ and go to prison and thats why she leaves? #Corrie."
Others expressed sadness over the departure. @xxAlicia89 wrote: "Tracy vs Cassie always makes me laugh. Really gonna miss Cassie when she leaves #Corrie." @TMSdrawings added: "Gutted Cassie is going!!! #corrie." @mishybabez_ commented: "I'm gonna miss Cassie and Tracy's rivalry when Cassie leaves #Corrie."
What's Next for Cassie?
With Ross Wilkes now in the picture, Cassie's exit storyline is expected to unfold in the coming weeks. The actor Ian Burfield plays Ross, and his arrival is likely to trigger Cassie's departure from Weatherfield.
