Coronation Street fans were left heartbroken as Cassie Plummer was seen leaving Weatherfield under suspicious circumstances, with many fearing her exit is permanent.
The character, played by Claire Sweeney, has been written out of the ITV soap as the actress takes on her dream role as Miss Hannigan in the touring production of Annie, with her stage stint already underway.
Ross's arrival and threats
Viewers have watched Cassie struggle since Ross Wilkes arrived on the cobbles, revealed as Tyrone Dobbs' long-lost father after Tyrone's children found him through a DNA database for his birthday.
Despite Cassie's discomfort, Tyrone has welcomed Ross into the family, and Ross has also struck up a romance with Tracy. Cassie tried to expose Ross, revealing he paid her for sex when she was 15, resulting in her pregnancy with Tyrone.
Ross offered to apologise, but later cornered Cassie in the ginnel, threatening her to keep quiet if she wanted to live.
Spiked drink and exit
Last week, Cassie was seen spiking Ross's drink with Tyrone's painkillers, but he swapped the drinks with Tracy, who collapsed and ended up in hospital after a drug overdose. Ross framed Cassie, and she pleaded with loved ones to believe she was set up.
During Monday's (July 3) edition of Corrie, Cassie announced she had landed a job on a cruise ship and would leave Weatherfield. After an emotional farewell, she planned to meet Steve, but Ross got there first, offering a lift to the train station.
Ross confessed he framed her, and when Cassie threatened to go to the police, he wouldn't let her out of the car, driving off with her—the last time viewers saw her.
