During Friday's (July 31) episode of Coronation Street, Betsy Swain was discharged from hospital and brought home to the cobbles, where her recovery will continue after she suffered two strokes. The major health trauma was caused by a blood clot, the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation. Doctors later spoke to Betsy about the cause, leading the teen to explain to her mum that her boyfriend, Dylan Wilson, had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal.
Upon her arrival outside No.6, Betsy was approached by Debbie Webster, who mentioned that Ryan Connor had told her she had "been in the wars". Rather than focusing on Betsy's condition, Debbie warned her and her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that she was having the girls round for some drinks in the garden, and to let her know if they ended up being too noisy and rowdy.
When Betsy offered, "It will be nice to hear laughter," Debbie got down to her level and said: "Tell me about it, I know exactly what you mean. Do you know, the worst thing about being poorly is folk treading on eggshells around you." She added: "Don't let the beggars get you down!"
Garden party scenes prompt fan reaction
Later, Betsy was seen with Lisa, Carla Connor-Swain, Ryan Connor and Lauren Bolton in the garden of No.6, while Debbie joined Sally Metcalfe and her friends at No.4. It was these rare scenes of residents socialising that led Coronation Street fans to flood social media with the same call for a return to the "old" ways of the long-running show.
Fans shared their thoughts online, with many praising the garden party scenes:
