Coronation Street confirms sixth death this year as Celeste dies
Corrie confirms sixth death as Celeste dies next week

Coronation Street has confirmed another death set to air next week, marking the sixth on the ITV soap this year. Newcomer Celeste, the aunt of Bernie Winter, passes away after illness, with the Winter family rocked by the news and a devastating family secret soon uncovered.

Celeste's death and the Winter family secret

Celeste had told Todd Grimshaw she had just months to live after a terminal cancer diagnosis. When the character dies next week, the Winter family is told. In the fallout, a devastating family secret rocks Bernie and her loved ones.

Dev comforts Bernie, as Gemma breaks the news to Kit. Gemma tells Bernie she will stand by her side no matter what. Todd finds a letter from Celeste addressed to him. Soon, Todd, Bernie, Kit, Gemma, Chesney, Joseph, Dev, George, Christina and Asha gather in the hotel bar for Celeste's remembrance party.

Six deaths on Corrie this year

Celeste's death is the sixth to air on Corrie this year alone, including a couple of offscreen demises. Billy Mayhew was left to die in the Corriedale crash aftermath by Theo Silverton back in January. He perished when the van he was driving exploded, with Theo trapping him. Theo then met a grim fate when he was killed by Sarah Platt just months later.

Soap legend Jim McDonald was shockingly killed offscreen earlier this year too, leaving his son Steve McDonald reeling. Then there was a character named Joan Ripley, who died at the undertakers. She was only on the show for a couple of episodes. More recently, Tim Metcalfe found his cousin Richie's wife Rachel dead at her home, with Richie arrested for murder. The death was not shown onscreen. Now death number six airs next week with Celeste, another short-term character.

Nina Lucas exit and other storylines

Elsewhere next week, another confirmed exit sees Nina Lucas saying her goodbyes after seven years, as Roy Cropper drives his niece out of Weatherfield for good. The door has been left open for Nina's return.

Also next week, Maggie and Brian's night together is the talk of the factory. Ronnie plots to steal Idris' car for Fiona, and Carl helps him. When Idris accuses Ronnie of theft, he punches Ronnie. Betsy tells Lisa she feels lonely, while Lauren annoys her as she texts Ollie during their time together. Jodie reveals her punishment for attacking Sarah after her day in court. Jodie clashes with Bethany, before suggesting to Kit that they go on a date. Later, Jodie hides Shona's car keys, and Shona panics when she realises she's left baby Harper in the car.

As Debbie relives her hairdressing past at the salon, Maria is shocked to find Debbie giving Bethany an 80s makeover. When Debbie picks up the scissors Maria stops her, leaving Debbie confused and rushing out.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
