Neither Coronation Street nor Emmerdale are on tonight as ITV replaces both soaps with live coverage of a pre-season friendly between Manchester United and Leeds United.
Soap storylines paused
On Coronation Street, Tim Metcalfe's cousin Richie Parkinson had been staying with Tim and Sally after marital problems. Tim later discovered Richie's shirt bloodied and found Rachel's dead body. DS Lisa Connor-Swain told Tim that Richie had been charged with Rachel's murder, and their daughter Lucy had gone into foster care.
Elsewhere, Sarah Platt, struggling in prison, told Kit Green she was ending their relationship so he could move on. Kit was seen calling someone unknown and rejecting a scheming Jodie Ramsey.
Emmerdale cliffhanger
On Emmerdale, Dr Caitlin Todd confronted Charity Dingle after an argument. After a teary conversation, Sarah Sugden pushed Todd, who slipped and hit her head on a table corner, dying. Serena Sugden helped them craft a self-defence story, but Charity told police she killed Todd to protect Sarah.
Billy Fletcher awoke from his coma and told Dawn Taylor that Joe Tate was the one who hit him, though viewers know Joe wasn't responsible.
ITV's football switch
ITV is airing live coverage of the Manchester United vs Leeds United friendly from Dublin's Croke Park, the first club football match at Ireland's biggest stadium since November 2009. Coverage begins at 7pm, with kick-off at 7.30pm.
Fans took to X to vent frustration, with @FatPunter asking why ITV would ditch the soaps for a friendly, and @sugarsden questioning the decision after World Cup disruptions.
Both soaps return on Thursday, with Emmerdale at 8pm and Coronation Street at 8.30pm.
