Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks has promised a dramatic Christmas Day episode, marking the departure of Gail Platt after 50 years on the soap. Brooks described the episode as 'old school Corrie with a modern twist', and confirmed that Helen Worth's exit will be 'glorious' and steeped in nostalgia.
Gail's storyline revolves around her engagement to Jesse Chadwick, but Brooks teased that secrets and betrayals will come to light. 'She's found out that some of her nearest and dearest have absolutely betrayed her. She doesn't know who to believe,' Brooks said, hinting that the wedding may not go ahead as planned.
Meanwhile, Shona Platt hits self-destruct after discovering David hid prison visitation notes from her son Clayton, who murdered David's ex-wife Kylie. Bethany Platt becomes embroiled in a love triangle with Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgeley, while Leanne Battersby seeks revenge after discovering her sister Toyah's secret affair with her fiancé Nick Tilsley.
On a lighter note, Carla Connor and Lisa Swain will finally commit to each other at Christmas. 'Christmas will be when they really commit to each other, when they declare how they feel about each other,' Brooks confirmed, ending months of will-they-won't-they tension.
