Coronation Street's Jodie Ramsey to stay as star signs new deal

Coronation Street star Olivia Frances-Brown is not saying goodbye to her scheming alter-ego Jodie Ramsey just yet, despite a potentially fatal twist next week. According to The Sun, the actress has signed a new contract with the ITV soap, which means she will play Jodie for at least another year.

Jodie's arrival and storyline

Jodie was introduced at the start of the year during ITV's Corriedale episode. She was in the back of Graham Foster's (Andrew Scarborough) van and made her way to Weatherfield following the multi-vehicle pile-up. Viewers discovered that Jodie is Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) sister.

The new face was not on the cobbles to reconnect though, as fans learnt that she was hellbent on destroying her sibling's life. When she is not focused on her revenge against Shona, Jodie passes the time by meddling with other residents including Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove), Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) and Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner).

Jodie's motives revealed

Olivia previously revealed why Jodie is so convinced that she needs to destroy Shona. She said: 'It's all about her warped mind. Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She's lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs – which obviously isn't reality! She's just completely hooked on that idea now.'

Jodie hates Shona for leaving her at the mercy of their mentally-unwell dad Doug (Steve Evets) when she was just a child. Shona was a pregnant teenage mum who was desperate to escape, but Jodie is not interested in excuses.

Olivia shared: 'She practically worships Shona. So much so that they've got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment. Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like. By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona.'

Next week's explosive showdown

Next week, the gun that Jodie stole from Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) comes out to play when Shona finally confronts her sister over the litany of wicked games she has enacted against her. In a flashforward, paramedics are tending to someone in the Platt house, with the living room clearly having been the scene of an explosive showdown.

As the story returns to the present moment, everything is put on the table between the sisters, as accusations fly, long-buried secrets are exposed and finally, a bullet flies through the air – but who has it hit?
