Tim and Sally Metcalfe face a fresh challenge in Coronation Street as Lucy's trauma escalates, leading to a violent outburst against Tim. The couple, already struggling to cope with fostering Lucy after her father Richie was arrested for murdering her mother, now realise they may have taken on more than they can handle.
Lucy's emotional turmoil
Lucy, played by Anya Dewin, has been showing increasingly volatile behaviour since arriving at the Metcalfe household. Her emotional instability was previously highlighted when a clash with Lily Platt in Victoria Gardens resulted in Jodie Ramsey being cut.
Next week, Shona Platt attempts to bring the girls together, and Lily offers a heartfelt apology during lunch. However, Lucy remains desperate to see her father, and her frustration grows when she learns that Joanie and Shanice will be visiting their mum, Lou Michaelis, in prison.
A violent reaction
When Tim and Sally tell Lucy that they must wait for guidance from social services regarding contact with her dad, the news proves too much for the teenager. She viciously lashes out at Tim before storming back to her bedroom.
Sally and Tim are left to confront the reality that they may have bitten off more than they can chew with Lucy, whose emotional state is far more complex than any of the other foster children they have taken in. The question remains whether the Metcalfes can reach Lucy, or if she is too damaged by her experiences to let them help.
