Coronation Street: Steve's Steamy Romance With Glenda Predicted

Coronation Street fans believe they have uncovered Steve McDonald's unexpected new love interest, predicting a steamy romance with Rovers barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) ahead of Cassie Plummer's exit.

Cassie's Failed Proposal and Rejection

Steve (Simon Gregson) is currently dating Tyrone Dobbs' mother, Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney). The couple recently faced several hurdles, culminating in Cassie's proposal at Street Cars earlier this week. Steve unexpectedly turned her down, while his ex-wife Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) listened in via the taxi radio.

During Wednesday's (July 8) episode, now streaming on ITVX, Steve reassured Ken (William Roache) and Tracy that he was still committed to Cassie and wanted to patch things up. However, Cassie was soon annoyed to see Steve helping his ex-wife with a flower delivery and decided to drown her sorrows at the Chariot Square Hotel.

Cassie's Drunken Encounter and Upcoming Exit

At the hotel bar, Cassie met a man and drunkenly made a pass at him, which was brutally rejected. After accusing Cassie of being a sex worker, the man walked away, leaving Cassie stunned to find a name she recognised on his bill – Ross Wilkes.

ITV confirmed earlier this year that Claire Sweeney would be leaving the cobbles after nearly three years playing Cassie. Claire has teased a "blast from the past" turning up as part of Cassie's exit storyline, which she described as "heartbreaking", "dramatic", and "explosive".

Fans Predict Steve and Glenda Romance

Ahead of Cassie's exit, some soap fans are already predicting Steve's new romance with a very unexpected Weatherfield resident. Viewers believe that Steve could spark a steamy new connection with Glenda Shuttleworth once Cassie says her final farewells.

"I have a prediction. Seeing as Claire Sweeney is leaving, I think Steve and Glenda will become a couple," one person wrote on a Facebook fan page. Another added: "That would be hilarious, but I love the idea." A third said: "Ha ha ha! No way, I love that." A fourth viewer echoed: "Now I'd love to see Glenda with Steve, [they'd] be a good match." Another shared: "I think Glenda and Steve would be good but I do like Tracy and Steve." Someone else commented: "That would be a good match. She'd make mincemeat of Tracy too if she tried to interfere."

Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
