Coronation Street may appear polished on screen, but a new behind-the-scenes special reveals the chaos that unfolds during filming. From forgotten lines to accidental innuendo, the cast of Britain's longest-running soap opera have shared their most embarrassing gaffes in a upcoming episode of Soap Slip Ups.
Jack P. Shepherd, who plays David Platt, admitted that forgetting lines during major scenes is a common nightmare. 'The worst one you're going to fluff is when it's a massive scene. And you forget and you corpse and everybody thinks you're a t***,' he said.
Jane Danson (Leanne Battersby) recalled struggling with the phrase 'industrial tribunal' during a scene with Ben Price. After a dozen failed attempts, she finally got it right, only for Price to botch his final line. 'Please don't make me do that again,' she said.
Double entendres have also caused trouble. In one scene, Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) had to tell Roy Cropper (David Neilson) 'You don't want to be kicking my back door in every five minutes do you.' Hill buried her head in her hands as Neilson burst out laughing. Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow) added: 'Sometimes it's very close to the knuckle.'
Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) has been singled out as the set's biggest joker. Jack P. Shepherd joked that Gregson deliberately messed up his lines to prolong a kissing scene with Paula Lane. Gregson admitted: 'I do have a habit of trying to make people laugh on purpose for my own sick pleasure.'
