Coronation Street Star Sydney Martin on Stroke Storyline

Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has marked the start of her major new storyline as Betsy Swain suffered a life-changing stroke in the ITV soap. The actress joined the show in 2024, initially appearing as Sabrina Adetiba's friend before being revealed as the daughter of Lisa Connor-Swain. Since then, she has been involved in several big plots, with her latest involving Dylan Wilson, played by Liam McCheyne.

Devastating Scenes Unfold

In Wednesday's episode (July 15), an ambulance was seen leaving No. 6 after Ryan Connor discovered an unconscious Betsy on the kitchen floor. Rushed to hospital, doctors confirmed she had suffered a stroke. Her mothers, Lisa and Carla Connor-Swain, kept vigil, but Betsy suffered a second stroke after appearing to stabilise. Doctors attributed the strokes to a blood clot caused by neck artery damage from temporary loss of circulation.

Betsy later revealed to her mum that Dylan had strangled her during consensual sex, though both believed the pressure applied was minimal. Lisa was horrified but reassured Betsy she had nothing to apologise for. When Dylan later arrived to check on Betsy, Lisa attacked him, calling him an 'animal' and asking if she should choke him as he had choked her child.
