Coronation Street has recast the role of Max Turner, with actor Paddy Never taking over from Harry McDermott, who played the character for 11 years. The change coincides with a darker direction for the storyline, as Max clashes with teacher Daniel Osbourne and stepfather David Platt.
Harry McDermott, now 15, joined the ITV soap at age four. A spokesperson thanked him for his contributions, stating: 'It is always a difficult decision to recast a role and we look forward to following Harry's career as he continues with his acting studies.'
In upcoming episodes, Max manipulates his ADHD diagnosis to avoid homework and accuses Daniel of favouritism. Tensions escalate when Daniel's wallet goes missing and he blames Max, leading to a confrontation with David. Daisy warns Daniel that his accusations could jeopardise his teaching career.
The recasting follows similar changes for young actors playing Summer Spellman and Aadi Alahan as their characters aged. Paddy Never has been filming for several weeks ahead of his debut in tonight's hour-long episode.
