Coronation Street viewers are forecasting the return of a beloved character after spoilers revealed that Sarah Platt is set to be imprisoned for the murder of Theo Silverton.
Sarah's Arrest and Charges
Back in April, abuser Theo (James Cartwright) was killed following the exposure of his campaign of terror against Todd (Gareth Pierce), triggering yet another whodunnit storyline on the long-running ITV soap. Suspicion fell on a number of characters, including Todd, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Gary Windass (Mikey North) and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson).
It was ultimately disclosed that Sarah (Tina O'Brien) was responsible for Theo's death, having struck him with a metal pole while on top of scaffolding. The blow sent him tumbling over the edge and crashing to the ground below. Sarah subsequently enlisted Gary's help to conceal the crime, and has since been battling to keep the terrible secret under wraps. This week, however, Sarah broke down and confessed the truth to her boyfriend and police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), reports the Daily Star.
To make matters worse, spoilers for the coming week have confirmed that Sarah faces arrest and imprisonment in a dramatic twist, strongly suggesting her departure from the show is imminent.
Evidence Mounts Against Sarah
As the week unfolds, the mounting evidence against Sarah becomes undeniable, prompting police to arrest her on suspicion of murder. Kit receives a call from Sarah at the station and does his utmost to offer her reassurance. At the police station, Sarah insists she's innocent. Meanwhile, in the office, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) informs Kit that Sarah is their main suspect, and they believe he's implicated as well.
Later, Lisa tells Kit they're charging Sarah with murder and warns him that continuing to protect her will jeopardise his career. Subsequently, Maria (Samia Longchambon) confronts Sarah, furious about Gary's involvement in Theo's death. Sarah eventually confesses to a stunned Lisa that she killed Theo.
Fans Predict Gail's Return
With Sarah facing imprisonment and her departure seemingly imminent, fans have been speculating about the potential return of her mum Gail Platt (Helen Worth), who departed Weatherfield in 2024 to start afresh in France with husband Jesse Chadwick (John Thomson).
"If Sarah leaves surely Gail will come back! ?" wondered one viewer on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page. Another agreed: "I thought the same." A third person remarked: "Yes surely Gail won't stay in France if her daughter is in prison? [laughing face emoji]."
